What is a comorbidity?

The dictionary will tell you that it is the simultaneous presence of two chronic diseases or conditions in a person.

The word has also been in the news more times in the last 6 months than the prior 6 years, and for good reason. Most recently after the CDC announced that on average, those that died from the coronavirus had 2.6 co-morbid conditions that attributed to their death.

High blood pressure, obesity and diabetes are among the top 3 comorbidities attributed to premature death every year. And those numbers continue to rise.

The saddest fact about those 3 is that in the majority of cases, they are preventable. These are “lifestyle diseases”. Most people won’t want to hear this, but in most cases; high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes and obesity are diseases of choice.

A desire or “want” to change is not nearly enough. Many people also “want” to be rich, successful, or maybe start their own business. Not many people are willing to put in the work!

It takes discipline, accountability and time to make a change. We see people all the time get off their medications for blood pressure, and insulin for their diabetes after months or sometimes years of consistent work in the gym and in the kitchen.

It’s not easy. Which is why most people wanting to change, won’t.

The science is simple. The greater number of co-morbid conditions you suffer from, the greater your risk of dying. From everything. Falls, fractures, surgeries, accidents, playing with your kids, hiking, etc; all become more dangerous. I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to live that way!

Our mission is to be much more than a gym to our community. We are a “more life” company. Our goal is to share a fun, knowledgeable and accepting group of people to help you on this journey of more life.

For some of you, it may be scary to take the first steps and join a gym. It shouldn’t be scary. We’re not a good fit for everyone; and we’ll let you know.  However, if we are a good fit for each other, I promise that you will not find another place that will work harder and give more to you (and for you) in effort to help you succeed.
