Meet the Coach – Nate

Nate has been a coach at Sycamore CrossFit since July 2018.

He came to us with coaching experience from Crosswinds CrossFit in Minnesota.

When/how did your health and fitness journey begin?

After high school, my buddy and I had set out our meathead goal to just get as big as possible. We lifted weights at a regular gym everyday all summer. Our goal was to be able to do a muscle-up by the end of the summer. One day, I saw a story on Snapchat showing the 2015 CrossFit Games – and there were these jacked dudes doing muscle-up after muscle up after muscle-up. I immediately thought, “I need to be a part of this” – and the rest is history.

I started at Crosswinds CrossFit in Minnesota shortly after, and I became a coach there as well. When I moved to Sycamore, I found Sycamore CrossFit right away. I was a member for about a year before Carl convinced me to start coaching again.

When did you first start coming to Sycamore CrossFit?

August 2017

Why did you want to become a coach at SCF?

I enjoy helping people achieve their goals, plain and simple. I wanted to coach at Sycamore CrossFit because I felt like I could really develop my coaching skills under Carl and Eric – as well as meet some interesting people within the very close knit community and help them achieve their fitness goals.

What education/certifications do you have?
  • CrossFit Level 1 Certificate
  • CrossFit Weightlifting Certificate
What is your favorite thing about coaching at Sycamore CrossFit?

Our community is so close that our members can laugh and joke with each other, all while encouraging each other when the WOD starts. It’s a unique and addicting atmosphere that people really do not (and cannot) understand until they are apart of it. It’s something that I can’t explain, but I know for a fact everyone and Sycamore CrossFit understands exactly what I’m talking about.

Why should people want to come take a class or do personal training with you?

I’m the best that’s why. No but if you’re trying to have a few laughs, have a great conversation about nothing important, all while getting a quality workout in – I’m the guy for you.

What is your favorite memory at Sycamore CrossFit?

All time favorite memory was when Coach Dillon was going for a heavy clean and jerk, and Ace (his doggo) dropped the ball in front of Dillon right as he was about to attempt the jerk. I laughed so hard that I sounded like Elmo – there’s a video on insta somewhere. I encourage everyone to watch it sometime – so funny.
