Nutrition Spotlight – April G

With consistency and accountability, April has been able to break old habits that weren’t serving her and replace them with healthy habits that are now foundational to her on her wellness journey. For instance, late nights spent scrolling on social media before bed has been traded in for earlier bedtimes and more quality sleep – giving her more energy, patience, and a better mood! With improved sleep, she’s been getting up earlier, and lately, she’s even found time in the mornings to meal prep – which is one less thing she has to do after a long day of work.

Over the past 8 months, she’s dropped 14 lbs, 2.8% body fat, and 5 inches!

What has been integral to your success in working towards your health and wellness goals?

Small habit changes have been integral to my success so far. Before this, I struggled with an all-or-nothing attitude; I expected to master dozens of new habits immediately upon declaring a new diet or fitness plan — and when I inevitably failed, I felt defeated and depressed. Learning to implement small changes each week has added up to a large repertoire of changes over the past few months; now it’s second nature to choose the habit that helps me reach my goals. I hardly recognize my behaviors and habits from a year ago!

What are some non-scale victories that you’ve experienced during nutrition coaching?

I’ve experienced so many non-scale victories during my nutrition coaching! One of the most important changes in my life is my mood. I’m most often in a good mood with more energy and increased patience. This has led me to better performance at work, which helps me feel personally fulfilled. It also helps me be a better mom because I have more energy to keep up with my son. I’ve also had non-scale victories like feeling stronger in the gym, body composition changes, more quality sleep, clear skin, stronger nails, healing more quickly (from getting tattooed!), better digestion, and decreased stomach pain.

What advice would you give someone who is considering the nutrition program, but is afraid to sign-up?

You’re not weak for needing help. Emily’s expertise has helped me break cycles and patterns in my nutrition that I’ve never been able to overcome alone. You don’t get a medal for struggling alone – sign up and get the guidance you need to see real changes.

April has worked hard to break old habits and replace them with healthy habits that will last a lifetime. Sycamore CrossFit is proud of her dedication to our nutrition and personal training programs and inspired by the confidence she’s gained on her wellness journey!
