Why did you choose Sycamore CrossFit? Why do you keep coming back?
I joined Sycamore CrossFit in March of 2019. SCF is physically close to home is the short answer (4.5 miles to be exact). For most of my adult life I have been a dedicated gym member, although never a CrossFitter. I have lifted weights, trained for and participated in running races, taken spin classes, attended yoga sessions, etc. Generally I’ve exercised four or more days a week for years. In March of 2019, I realized that I had developed quite a routine, and in that moment, I recognized my routine had become problematic. I was stuck in my comfort zone.
One of my personal goals is to increase my health span. Not only do I want a long life span, but I want to do what I can to ensure that as many of those years are healthy, happy years. I return to SCF time and time again simply because SCF is the singular best physical catalyst I’ve found to help me towards this goal. (And I’m competitive).
What’s your best story about the gym?
I have a story about camaraderie. Not one specific story, but a daily story of perseverance, dedication, courage, and encouragement that every single one of the coaches and athletes put forth during the Stay at Home order and at-home workouts. To see how everyone came together as a group, when physically gathering was a barrier, was truly something special, and I’ll never forget it.
What advice would you give to the person you were a year ago?
Brace yourself, this year is going to be off the charts weird! Continue to work hard to improve new skills while being patient with yourself through the process.
What accomplishment at the gym or in your nutrition are you the most proud of?
I finally got a bar muscle-up! Overall my strength and conditioning are becoming much more complete. My mobility has also improved.
We are incredibly proud of Nathan’s consistency, accomplishments, and positive attitude! We have also never seen anyone do burpees as fast as he does!
