Why did you choose Sycamore CrossFit? Why do you keep coming back?
My sister basically begged me to try CrossFit. She had seen really good results with it. I had been working out at a traditional gym for 7 or so years and needed a change. I thought CrossFit was stupid and that I’d crush the workouts. My first WOD was on a Saturday and was a 10 minute AMRAP; I couldn’t finish it. I had to stop mid-workout and watch everyone else finish. I kept coming back because I felt defeated and didn’t like feeling like CrossFit beat me, especially after all the crap I talked about it.
What’s your best story about SCF?
One workout I was struggling, hard, and Kevin E. could tell. I was taking long rests, often. He looked at me and said, “Come on Dave, slow is better than no.” That comment/moment had a lasting impression on me.
What advice would you give the person you were a year ago?
Just keep going. Don’t worry about PRs or adding weight to lifts. Keep going, keep moving, even if it’s at a slow pace. Progress will be made. Enjoy the process, and the results that come along with it.
