Why did you choose Sycamore CrossFit?
I chose Sycamore CrossFit because of a co-worker’s recommendation to try CrossFit. From the second I walked in, Carl, Eric, and Hannah were all welcoming and didn’t project a judgmental mindset like many other gyms had to me in the past. I had just had a life changing event and needed a change. Sycamore CrossFit appeared to offer a true fitness judgment free area.
What’s your best story about SCF?
During my first Murph WOD I chose to do the FULL workout: 1 mile run, 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 air squats and another 1 mile run. I hadn’t run a mile since middle school. I was among the last in the whole gym to finish this workout. Running isn’t my strong suit; I was so inspired when another member, Nathan, came out and finished my last mile with me, just to push and motivate me to finish the run.
What advice would you give the person you were a year ago?
Remember everything is a mountain – there are ups and downs. This journey isn’t a flat downward path. Weights will go up and down, PRs will happen and disappear. Don’t focus on the progress of the people around you, focus on today and focus on the progress you’ve made.
