Meet the Coach – Mike

Mike began as an intern at Sycamore CrossFit in January 2019, and he transitioned to a coach position in August 2019.

He coaches CrossFit group classes, Foundations classes, and he does personal training.

When/how did your health and fitness journey begin?

I was always involved in various sports growing up, but I would always get muscle cramps in my calfs. At a younger age I tried understanding why and what to do in order to fix the muscle cramp problem, and that ignited my interest in the human body. From there, my education began focusing more on the benefits of leading an active and healthy lifestyle. Now, I want to spread that message to as many people as possible.

When did you first start coming to Sycamore CrossFit?

I first started coming to Sycamore CrossFit in January of 2019.

Why did you want to become a coach at SCF?

I wanted to become a coach at Sycamore CrossFit because I wanted to help as many people as possible to lead active and healthy lifestyles. Health and Fitness has always been my passion, and being able to make an impact in our community has been incredible.

What education/certifications do you have?
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Health Science from Bradley University
  • Currently pursuing a Master’s in Kinesiology/Exercise Physiology at Northern Illinois University
  • CrossFit Level 1 Certificate
  • USA Weightlifting Level 1 Certification
What is your favorite thing about coaching at Sycamore CrossFit?

My favorite thing about coaching at Sycamore CrossFit has to be the community aspect. Whether it is when someone hits a new PR, sets a new PR for a benchmark WOD, or finally is able to complete a certain movement, everyone cheers.

Why should people want to come take a class or do personal training with you?

While we have a Workout of the Day, I can help you modify it to meet your personal fitness level and goals. Aside from that, I will always have a smile on my face and keep things upbeat and positive.

What is your favorite memory at Sycamore CrossFit?

There are a ton of good memories at Sycamore CrossFit, but my favorite memory is Week 1 of Friday Night lights in 2019. The workout was rowing and wall balls. I had only been here for about a month and a half at the time, but people were cheering me on, including some of whom I had not met yet. That moment was infectious, showed me the awesome community we have, and I will never forget that.
