Change Up Your Boring Exercise Routine

How do people stick with an exercise routine?

They enjoy it!

Is your exercise routine boring?

Do you feel like you’re just doing the same thing over and over on autopilot and not even seeing results anymore?

Here are some things that should be a part of your workout routine to help cure the boredom.

It should be a total body workout.

Ever heard of leg day? A lot of people workout one body part at a time on machines at a gym, but in our opinion sitting at machines, doing 12 reps, and then waiting around can get boring!

There is definitely a time and place for weightlifting, but pick weightlifting movements that use your whole body! Olympic weightlifting movements like the clean and jerk or snatch are perfect for this!

Make sure you are working out efficiently – this means getting the most fitness out of every movement you do. How? By using your whole body to get the work done.

Here are some movements that use your whole body:

  • Burpees
  • Deadlift
  • Squats
  • Running
  • Wall Balls

I’ll stop here because this list is just going to get way too long, and it’s pretty much just every movement we do at Sycamore CrossFit!

It should be different every day.

Going to the gym and completing the same routine day after day or week after week gets tedious.

The monotony of doing the same thing over and over again makes it easy to fall off the fitness wagon.

The solution? Find ways to make your workouts different every day! You can do this by coming up with different formats and movements. Or you can have a coach come up with those things for you. Just make sure it keeps changing to keep yourself engaged and to prevent boredom.

It should be fun.

You’re not going to stick with something you aren’t enjoying, so you need to make sure you’re having fun doing your workout routine.

It can be because you enjoy pushing yourself.

It can be because you’re doing it with friends.

It can be because you’re a glutton for punishment.

Either way, you should find something you enjoy!

Many people love the fun of “competing” alongside their friends in a group class environment. They enjoy themselves, and they push themselves a lot more than if they were by themselves.
