Athlete of the Week – Dan Harris

This week’s Athlete of the Week is one busy guy. Not only does his CFO job keep him moving, but this guy has 4 teenagers! Based on that, we might need to extend Dan’s premium parking space to 2 weeks. Dan came to us already familiar with the life of an athlete, so it’s no wonder he can manage a full schedule and still make time to put fitness as a top priority. Dan is extremely coachable, supportive of fellow members, and always working on being the best version of himself. We are so glad we can provide a place to stay healthy in your hometown Dan, and thankful to have you call Sycamore CrossFit your home gym.

How would you explain your occupation to a 5 year old?

I am the CFO of a company called Gorilla in Chicago so I guess I would say to a 5 year old I count money for a monkey???

How did you get started with CrossFit?

I was out in Park City Utah for a few months in 2016 and started out there.

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

Almost two years on and off.  I tore my bicep tendon last summer (playing softball not CrossFit) which derailed me a bit.

What are your hobbies and interests outside CrossFit?

Well, my 4 children including a set of triplets (ages 14, 16, 16, 16).  Sipping on Bourbon.

What is your fitness background?

3 sports in high school, Division 3 college football (Illinois Wesleyan . . go Titans!), a few marathons under my belt in my 30’s (Cincinnati & Chicago).  Typical old man workouts in the past (bench and curls mostly).

Short-term training goal?

Double Unders!

Long-term training goal?

See my abs . . . for the first time.

What is your favorite movement?

Rowing

What is your least favorite movement?

Burpees

Proudest moment in CrossFit so far?

Completing the open the past two years.

What was your biggest obstacle to starting CrossFit and how did you overcome that?

Walking back into the box after getting crushed the first few weeks.

What kept you coming back?

The coaches and support of other Cross-Fitters.  You must check your ego at the door.

Your advice for someone considering starting CrossFit?

Showing up is 90% of the battle.

How has Sycamore CrossFit changed your life?

It has given me a wonderful opportunity to get healthy in my hometown and I’m thankful for that.
