10 Years From Now?

I get a finite amount of time every day to spend with my children. They’re growing up so fast. I don’t want to miss a moment.

Some nights after work it’s hard to give up the hour it takes to hit the gym. (Other days it’s easy – we’ve all been there). I don’t want to miss that time with them.

But I have to fit that hour in. I have to for me. And I have to for them.

My gym time is my self-care time. It helps me destress. It keeps me healthy and in-shape. It gives me energy. It makes me strong enough to carry them and gives me the endurance to keep up with them.

My dad used to play tennis with me all the time. He was in his 70s and he was beating me. I never did win in a game of singles. Can everyone’s dad beat them at a sport into their 70s? Can most people in their 70s even play a sport?

Now I have a feeling that my daughters will have a lot more athletic ability than I do. For their sake, I really hope they do. But I want to be able to play against them. I want to be able to run, climb, and play on the jungle gym with them when they’re 3. I want to be able to chase them down the soccer field when they’re 7. I want to be able to run a 5K with them when they’re 12. And I want to be able to play a game of tennis with them when they’re 28.

What do you want to still be able to do 10 years from now?

Sincerely,

Phoebe
